Story of Saint Paschal Baylon (1540-1592)

Paschal Baylon was born in Torre Hermosa, the kingdom of Aragon (now Northeast Spain) on May 24, 1540. Date of birth coincides with the Feast of Pentecost, as well as the time of his death, when the Church celebrates Pentecost. That is, he really sheltered the Holy Spirit and his life is the call of the Holy Spirit.
Paschal comes from a very poor family. Since the age of seven years, he has worked as a shepherd. He never had a chance to go to school. Poverty is no denying his family his wish to be able to read and write. He learned to read and write their own. Without shame he asked anyone to help him learn. He studied diligently in order to read spiritual books and scriptures. He whispered prayers throughout the day while herding sheep in the desert.
Habit of reading spiritual books and scriptures growing interest in monastic life. He intends to become monks who live the radical poverty. For four years he traveled Spain to recognize the existing monasteries. When 24-year-old, shepherd boy dropped his choice into the Franciscan brothers. He eventually joined the convent of Saint Francis despicable man in Montforte.
In the monastery Montforte, faith and love in Jesus the crucified Paschal flourish. He liked in his community of friends. He is known as a sociable and gentle heart. Fellow monks noticed that he was often the hardest task and not fun. He bermati sports, even harder than that specified in the regulations monastery. When I was a shepherd, he missed being in church to pray to Jesus, but could not. Now, he spends much time with Jesus. He was very happy to accompany Christ in the Blessed Sacrament exposed in the tabernacle.
Father Ximenes, the leader of the monastery, very impressed personally Brother Paschal. He testified that there has never been a Franciscan monk who truly appreciate the total poverty as Brother Paschal. In his room just found a cross of Jesus and the statue of the Virgin Mary. Also a small table and a piece of wood as well as pillow seating. Only three hours he slept. Middle of the night he prayed with his friends holy office. After the holy office, he remained to pray and meditate in front of the tabernacle, while his friends back to his room. Early in the morning he had opened the door of the church and prepare all the equipment mass. Everyday he served as a monastery doorkeeper. All who came with a friendly welcome.
Two things are very Paschal love, namely the Holy Eucharist and the Blessed Mother. Every day he had a Mass and pray the rosary with great love. He also wrote beautiful prayers to the Heavenly Mother. Paschal make a small book of paper-newsprint. In his notebook, he wrote down thoughts and prayers are beautiful. Because of her love for the Eucharist, he was sent to become a missionary in France. There he was against the Protestants who refused to acknowledge the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Although he has struggled, his efforts have not succeeded. He was instead driven by them. Eventually he returned to the Franciscan monastery in Villareale until the end.
Paschal is known as a devout monk and run the self-discipline is hard. Nevertheless, he lovingly and wisely in welcoming everyone who comes asking for the prayers and guidance. Although science may never have had in school, apparently she could be friends a fun discussion. Fr Emmanuel Rodriquez, a theologian, testified that a friend of Brother Paschal discussion about the Christian faith points elusive. He can explain the main points of the faith more clearly than himself.
Paschal died on May 15, 1592. He was proclaimed a saint by Pope Alexander VIII in 1690. He is regarded as the protector of combines are devoted to the Blessed Sacrament. Church celebrating every 17 May.
