Story of Saint Nonius Alvares Pereira (1360-1431)

Nonius Alvares Pereira, Nuno fondly called, was born in Portugal on June 24, 1360 from the couple and Dona Irene Dorn Alvaro Goncalves. He saw that war always takes a lot of victims and raises poverty. The suffering of his people has opened eyes and hearts Nuno to strive earnestly for the poor.Those small, poor, weak, helpless, hungry, depressed and his soul has always existed since the beginning until now. To them Jesus is coming. Nuno imitate Jesus' actions, and even did it long before he became a monk.Although only 28 years old and had abandoned his wife for ever, he rejected pressure to get married again. He is still living as a widower military. For more than 30 years he was involved in the construction of churches, papel, and monasteries.In 1415, his only daughter, married with a young Beatriks. He received the Order of Caramel in Lisbon, with the name of Brother Nuno monastery of Santa Maria. Everything is precious.On July 3, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI signed two decrees related Nuno heroic virtue and the authenticity of miracles of healing Guillermina de Jesús, a blind woman in Portugal. On 26 April 2009, in a festive ceremony in the square of St. Peter's Basilica, Pope Benedict XVI canonized a Saint of Brother Nuno.
